September Favourites

At the start of September I made a 'bucket-list-that's-not-really-a-bucket-list-more-like-just-a-list-of-things' and in this really catchy titled list I mentioned how I wanted to do a 'Monthly Favourites' post. So here goes...

(Got a feeling this is going to be pretty long, apologies!)

Beauty

This month I have been completely obsessed with Maybelline's Baby Lips. They're freeeeeeeeeeeeakin' amazing, and really do leave your lips nice and soft. I used to be a Vaseline addict but then I tried these in 'Pink Punch' and 'Hydrate'. Not much else to say really, they do what it says on the tin (or tube, whatever). They're also really good value - only £2.99 from Boots (but I used my Advantage card so I feel like they were free which makes me like them even more..)

I've also been loving Soap & Glory's Foam Call. Not much to say here either - it's foamy and smells nice. What more could you want in a body wash?
I'm afraid I can't tell you how much it is because I actually bought it for my sister last Christmas and she hasn't used it, so I've taken it upon myself to get my money's worth out of it. Thanks Caroline...

Finally, I've been using Vo5's 'Give Me Texture - Dry Texturising Spray' It's kind of like a lighter dry shampoo apart from the fact it's not a dry shampoo (I'm so good at describing! Not.) It just adds loads of texture to your hair, which is always a good thing. And it also smells really nice. I got it as part of a 2 for £5 deal from Superdrug, which is pretty cheap too!

Music

I read, and watch, so many Monthly Fvaourite posts and never really see any with music included. So I'm going to start it, go me.

I've been having an 'I really miss My Chemical Romance' month so have been getting pretty into 'The Black Parade is Dead!' Listening to it really loud either in my car or in my headphones just makes me happy (and also a little bit sad when Famous Last Words comes on, totes emosh) Anyone who's a MCR fan should definitely listen to it if you haven't already.

I've also been listening to Plain White T's a lot. Never really listened to them before but then I bought 'All That We Needed' (mainly because it has Hey There Delilah on it and I love that song) and it's such a good album! It's just pretty feel good, and not like what I expected it to sound like so yeah, everyone should listen to that too!

Other...

As I'm sure I've mentioned before, I love candles (maybe a little too much). I bought two mini Yankee Candles and wow, they're so nice! I got Christmas Treats (before anyone says it: No, it is not too early for Christmas!) and Sweet Pea. They were only £1 each, which is really good too. They smell so nice.

I did have a lot more favourites - but I think this is probably pretty boring for you to read so I'll leave it there (unless anyone wants to hear the rest?!)

At least I can now say I've done a Monthly Favourites!

The Problem With Facebook

My newsfeed on Facebook just seems to be full of people having an amazing time all the time and never being bored or anything.

And this is the problem with Facebook...

I don't post statuses (or is it status'?) much, apart from if I've done something embarrassing (However if I posted a status everytime this happened it would be about 3983457 times a day..), done something I want to show off about - like passing exams, or if I've posted something on my blog. I don't ever post things like:

'Having such an average day. Been at work, came home, had tea and now doing nothing'

Even though this is what happens on most of my days. So if you were to look at my Facebook it looks like all I do is see my friends, go on holiday and blog - which is pretty exciting but not really what my life is like - between all these exciting things I have days of doing nothing, days of work and days where I'm too lazy to move out of bed.

So when I go on Facebook and see everyone doing exciting things making me think they're having more fun than me I really need to try and remember that they're only putting the good things on Facebook that they want to show off about - not the boring humdrum-everydaylife-rubbishy things that no one cares about.

One other thing that really irritates me on Facebook are the hundreds of ridiculous pages I liked when I was about 14 that still come up on my newsfeed, like:

'Ask me if I'm a carrot. Are you a carrot? No.'

Like what even is that?

As much as I complain about it I still check Facebook everyday.

Being Nice

The other day I nipped to get some petrol whilst on my dinner break at work. WOW SO INTERESTING.

Whilst I was getting my petrol I shared some awkward eye contact with the man who was filling his car up next to me. I mean, the fact that I'd parked so horrendously close to the petrol pump that it took me about 7 hours to actually squeeze out of my door is probably what made him look at me but anyway.

(Back to the story...)

After I'd paid and was about to attempt getting back in to my car he stopped me to tell me he liked my scarf. Now this clearly isn't the biggest or the best compliment in the world but the fact that he took his time to actually tell me really made me smile and brightened my day a little.

I think everyone should make the effort to give strangers compliments, I think it's really nice. Obviously not in some weird creepy way - but if you see someone with nice hair or something, tell them! They might be having an awful day and that may just cheer them up a little. (I feel like I'm preaching now)

Also, if anyone else is like me (which I hope for your own sake that you're not) I just assume that random people talking to me instantly means they're going to abduct me or they're joking and I look like a massive state but if they've taken time out of their day to compliment you, they probably are just being nice.

And finally - there is a difference between just simply being nice and flirting.

15 Facts About Me

Hello all!

Instead of a normal blog post I thought I'd do the '15 Facts About Me' tag. (Mainly because I'm having a slight writers block and CANNOT think of anything else to write. booo)

So here goes...

1.What is your full name?
Elizabeth Kate Thorley

2. What quote/phrase do you live by?
Hmm, I don't particularly live by any, but my favourite is probably
'Everything will be ok in the end, if it's not ok then it's not the end. Life's good, smile!'
Maybe I should try to live by this, I worry way too much about stupid things.

3. What was your favourite subject in school?
Ethics and Philosophy. I absolutely loved this subject - I was meant to be doing it at university actually.

4. How many siblings do you have?
I have 3 older sisters.

5. What is the last thing you bought?
A fish pie and some pepsi max. Wow my life is MENTALLLLLLLL.

6. Do you drive ? If so, have you crashed?
I do drive. I've been driving for about a year and a half now and luckily I haven't crashed yet. The closest I have had to a crash would be a tie between the time that involved an ambulance, some traffic lights, my car and a bollard. Or the time I forgot to put my handbrake on and went to put petrol in my car.
fml.

7. What does you last text message say?
'hahaha i've never done that before :P i was still a bit late! i couldn't see you xxx'

HOW INTERESTING.

8. Do you sing in the car?
YES! What kind of weirdo doesn't?!

9. First concert?
That would be McFly, who I have now seen 10 times. I'm not sad, honest.

10. What was the last concert you saw?
ONE DIRECTION. OMG THEY WERE AMAZING.

11. Favourite Book?
Ohhh this is too hard. I'm going to tell you my favourite authors instead - John Green, Sophie Kinsella and Jodi Picoult. Everyone should read all of their books NOW.

12. Did you like school?
Yes! I left last year and I still miss it!

13. What do you order at Starbucks?
A Strawberries and Cream Frappuccino (without the cream because I'm fussy)

14. Two Pet Peeves?
Don't get my started on my pet peeves. I couldn't possibly just tell you two. I'm going to tell you my top 9:

-Ankle flappers
-Sandwich bags
-People licking yoghurt tops
-People who eat one piece of chocolate then leave the rest of the bar (WHY?!?)
-Ticking clocks
-People who don't reply to texts (biggest hypocrite ever)
-People who don't indicate on islands.
-Crocs and socks
-Too many exclamation marks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 (Being a hypocrite again)

In case you can't tell I'm annoyed very easily.

15. Guilty Pleasures?
Erm..my electric blanket.

Hope you enjoyed that! At least now you all know a little more about me. (I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or not really)

I'll be back on Sunday with hopefully something a little more exciting! :)

I'M SO UNFIT

Anyone who knows me will know that I do not do exercise. The only thing I do which could be classed as exercise would be walking, but on an average day I literally only walk from my front door to my car, then from my car to my desk at work then the same again at the end of the day, I really wish this was a joke but I'M TOO LAZY TO DO ANYTHING.

The other day I had no choice but to walk to the shops as my car was in for a service. The majority of people would do this without any bother, especially because it's only a 15 minute walk, but it took me from when I woke up until half 3 to actually move and leave the house, which meant as it was a Sunday I only had half an hour to get to the shop and buy what I needed (which happened to be a candle, I've become slightly obsessed with them recently and just had to buy another).

Anyway, I was (un)happily walking to the shops when my (extremely) low level of fitness suddenly dawned on me...

I was walking up the mountain  hill to the shops when I had to take a break in the middle and pretend that I had an extremely important text to send, so important that I couldn't possibly carry on walking whilst I sent it.

I ACTUALLY STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF A SMALL HILL BECAUSE I COULD NOT WALK TO THE TOP.

I'm not sure which is more embarrassing - the fact that I couldn't make it to the top of the hill or the fact that I had to pretend to send a text. I'll let you decide on that one.

September!

Hello!

September's here! Which I'm guessing most people have realised by now, especially if you're on Twitter. Was anyone else's Timeline full of 'Wake me up when September ends?' I don't want to be a killjoy or anything, but that joke just has never really been funny.

I've noticed quite a few people that aren't too happy about September's arrival, but this is my favourite time of the year! I love it when the evenings get dark, it starts to get cold, everywhere is just so cosy and my obsession with fairy lights becomes slightly more acceptable. Not to mention the fact that it also means I can wear so many layers of warm snuggly clothes, which also makes me happy.

I also start to get excited for Christmas now. People say it's too early but I just LOVE Christmas!

Anyway, going to actually get to the point of this post now. I'm going to write a bucket list for this September. (I don't think this is technically a bucket list, as my items on the list are more like new years resolutions but it's not January and I want to start now!) If I don't write it down anywhere I know I won't make the effort to complete it, so here goes:

- Texting. I know this one sounds rubbish, but I'm really bad at replying to people. If someone texts me and gets an instant reply, they are very lucky. I usually get a text, read it, then think about it for approximately 784927 hours before making the effort to reply, or I just don't. So I'm going to make sure I really put the effort in now.

-Drinking. This sounds like I'm some kind of alcoholic. I can assure you I'm not, but I did go out a lot over summer and feel very sorry for my poor body. I did originally say I would give it up until Christmas but that seems like a long time, so I'll just try with September for now.

-Favourites. I read/watch so many monthly favourites on the internet, which include make up, beauty products, food..literally anything. I always want to do one so I'm going to make the effort at the end of this month.

-Grow my hair. I had an asymmetrical hair cut last year and I'M STILL GROWING IT OUT. I will have equal hair by the end of the month.

-Read more. I went on holiday in July for 3 weeks and read 9 books.(I got slightly obsessed with John Green, everyone should read all of his books, they're amazing) I absolutely love reading but never find the time for it, I'm going to really make the effort now.

Right, I think that's it.

(This post was meant to be short, but I've managed to waffle on again about nothing AGAIN)

The End of Summer

Luckily for me, I work in a primary school so still get to enjoy the 6 weeks holidays. However, it's my last day of the holidays today and I shall be returning to work tomorrow.
Jack, Me and Megan

In Derby, at the end of every summer there is a concert held in the park. Nearly everyone goes to it and throughout the day that it is held I see so many people heading towards the park with deck chairs, blankets and picnics. I absolutely love it.

Every year there is a different theme to the music, which this year was 'Time'..I can't say I particularly enjoy the music they play (mainly because it's all classical..which is the complete opposite of what I like but I can't imagine all the old people of Derby enjoying sitting in the park listening to Fall Out Boy or My Chemical Romance really..) but it's just such a nice atmosphere.

I went last night with my friends and we had a really good relaxed evening sitting, eating our picnic, (which was a little measly compared to some of the others) and enjoying some cider.
Jill, Tilly and Megan

At the end of the evening there is a firework display,(I would post a picture of them, but my photos make the fireworks look like wotsits) I have been going to this concert every year and still get a little emotional at the fireworks because, for me, they really do signify the end of the summer and the fact that my closest friends will all be heading off to different cities for their second year of University.

All in all it was a lovely evening with some of my favourite people :)
